Recipe: Harira

I ran across this Moroccan soup a few months ago and figured I’d eventually get around to it and now it’s easily one of my favorites. With a hearty tomato and spice base it contains what seems like an overwhelming amount of things (chickpeas, lentils, and a small amount of meat as well) but that gives it a great base but makes it hearty enough for a full meal.

Menu: Welcome to 2019

It took a minute but 2019 is now officially started and this blog has moved from its old landing place to the new one (though I can’t seem to make the redirect work 100% but whatever, time fixes everything I suppose). I’m going to try and get back to business as usual but we’ll see how long that streak lasts.

We have friends who have four cats and go out of town for a few days every month. This means that we get to hang out with a lot of cats several times which is really cute most of the time. I don’t have any deeper thoughts than that about the menu this week – apologies.

Recipe: Potato Croquette

If you ever wanted to eat mashed potatoes as a finger food: this is it. These are perfectly creamy and deliciously cheese filled but in the future I might actually not shred the cheese but instead place a small cube inside each ball just for a next texture change. To make them much easier to bread I froze them before but you bread them right away if you’re impatient. This is great if you have leftover mashed potatoes (though who has leftover mashed potatoes?).

Menu: Thanksgiving Already!?

It’s already Thanksgiving week. Since we’re abroad we’ll be “celebrating” it on Friday. In terms of celebrating…I just like an excuse to make a full menu dinner. Plus it’s an excuse to break out some of the fancy wine that we bought when we were on vacation which is really all you can ask from a holiday.

Recipe: Turkey Bolognese

This is such a simple sauce but it’s absolutely delicious. Served with a wide noodle to pick up all those nice chunks of turkey (or chicken or beef or whatever ground meat you end up using) and tomato there’s really something truly delicious about taking good food and making a good meal. You can add some grated Parmesan on top but I found that if seasoned right, the cheese just didn’t have much to add so it’s all about your taste. You can add in more spices or herbs if you want but I found the perfectly paired down flavors packed a nice punch and with just salt and pepper you’re able to really taste the underlying garlic, olive oil, and balsamic. Sometimes life is better when it’s simple.

Weekly Lunches: #18

I feel like I’m very slow at everything suddenly but at least I’m up to number 18 with my lunches. If I don’t manage to post for any of the next four more weeks I’ll have still have posted a little more than every other week which is ehhh, not great but better than nothing. I don’t know if posting does anything since I don’t actively try to grow an audience but at least it proves I can kind of do things regularly when I want to.

hummus wrap, salad, mandarin, kiwi tomato soup, carrot roll, salad trash casserole, carrots and hummus, apple, kiwi couscous with vegetables and harissa, yogurt with kiwi, apple hummus wrap (the reprise, now with carrots), boiled eggs, kiwi
